From the secant to the tangent line

The difference quotient as \(h \to 0\): drag \(h\) towards zero, from the right and from the left, and watch the secant turn into the tangent. Drag the sliders, or press ▶ to animate. On the graph, pan by dragging with two fingers (or the mouse) and zoom with Shift + mouse wheel.
